A medical assistant working under the supervision of a doctor may provide adequate medical services in a long-term care facility, unless the regulations of the Ministry of Health provide that the medical service may be provided only by a physician or the delegation of the medical service is prohibited by the guidelines of the institution. At the choice of the attending physician and the institution, the scheduled visits required by the regulations of the Ministry of Health may alternate between the doctor and the physician`s assistant after the first visit. PAs employed by a long-term care facility or with extended privileges may, where permitted by the laws, rules and regulations of the long-term care facility, issue medical prescriptions for inpatients in the facility under the care of the physician responsible for supervising the PA. A countersignature of these prescriptions may be required if the attending physician or long-term care facility deems it necessary and appropriate, but in no case is a counter-instruction required prior to enforcement.
